ECOnetic is Ford’s buzzword for squeezing the very last drop from a litre of diesel.
We’ve already got a Mondeo ECO-netic and a super frugal Fiesta version, unveiled at the Motor Show, will be on sale in October.
Meanwhile, the Focus ECOnetic with its 1.6 litre Engine, comes with choice of two power levels (89bhp and 109bhp).
Squeeze another £500 out of the budget if possible and go for the latter, at £16,550
The respective mpgs are virtually the same - a frugal 65.6 on the combined cycle, and 78.3mpg on the country cycle - but more suited to a fully loaded Focus.
It moves easily through the five manual gears at all speeds, and there’s a red shift indicator in the instrument panel that will quickly flash a warning if the rev counter goes beyond the optimal change up point to maximise fuel economy.
This car begs for the steady drive, and with its 11.6 gallon tank there’s a range of 750 miles under the bonnet. That also allows you to putter arround for a few more days on empty, worry free, not many cars of this size can do that.
With economy strength and engine depth, a cabin that will seat four adults in fair comfort, five at a push, and a basic load area of 396 litres, it will serve a growing family, or company user well.
There’s just one model right now - and there isnt too much missing off the equipment list.
It lacks electric ‘rear’ windows and rear parking sensors are £200 extra cost.
Standard items include:
Front Fog lights
Air Conditioning
Capless refueling
Powered and heated door mirrors
Central and double locking
Anti lock breaks with electronic force assistance
Front Seat side airbags
Side curtain bags
Electronic stability
Traction Control to help keep things safe.
