If the thought of an all new Evo gets your heart racing, now’s the time to break out the defibrillator. The new Evo X could be the best performance car Mitsubishi has built.

Mitsubishi Evo X

In line with the tradition, power comes from a turbo charged 2.0 litre engine, but Mitsubishi must be hoping that the Evo is never drug-tested because it’s surely been at the steroids to produce its 291bhp! That immense wallop is spread more evenly over the rev range than in Evos of old, too. Performance is also suitably show stopping the 0-62moh dash comes and goes in just 4.7 seconds.

If that doesnt sound wild enough for you, there are two further upgrades that will hike the output to either 325bhp or 354bhp, for an extra £3000 or £8000. Both of these are nuttier than a squirrels shopping list because they hit 62moh from rest quicker than an £80 Audi R8! view Audi R8.

The Appeal doesn’t stop at blur-the-scenery performance, though. The permanent four-wheel drive and vast collection of all singing all dancing electronic stability aids willl give you total control over the car’s ferocious power. Switch off the gizmos and the Evo still feels unflappable, with its knuckle-whitening frip, superb balance and sharp, direct steering.

As well as a supercar performance, you get everyday practicality, too: there’s plenty of space for four passengers and a decent-sized boot. The cabin is also a bit more swanky than Evo customers will be used to, and standard kit includes climate control, 18inch alloys, bluetooth phone connectivity and automatic bi-xenon headlamps.
