Market trend is to increase models in size therefore increase weight. The new Mazda6 is bigger but not heavier. With the improved suspension and safety features as well as the increased dimensions, the car should weight another 95kg, however with the gram strategy, the weight difference is actually 35kg less.
Improved suspension with superior rigidity and collision safety results in a smoother and more refined drive, increased stability and ride comfort
Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) – means a quicker response and less drain on the engine.
300 hours of wind tunnel testing have proven best in class aerodynamics on the new Mazda6. The overall design and styling of the new Mazda6 offers less resistance to air e.g. with the sloping A-pillar. Improved aerodynamics also aids fuel economy as less resistance means less power is required to move the car at higher speeds.
An example of improved aerodynamics is the position and shape of the wing mirror. It is closer to the A-pillar thereby reducing wind noise but improving airflow.
Mazda tested the overall sound pressure level on coarse road surface at 60km/h. The graphs show the dramatic reduction in NVH from the outgoing to the new Mazda6 as well as compared to key competitors – e.g. Passat is reknown for being a quiet ride.
Emphasis placed on significantly reducing cabin noise to ensure a refined and comfortable drive experience. Materials within the engine compartment have sound-absorbing qualities, roof reinforcements and instrument panel materials have lowered vibration transmission and wind noise/flow is reduced as the wing mirrors are closer to the A-pillar
